Maternity

Pregnancy is a remarkable time in your life, full of amazing changes and giddy anticipation. No wonder women want to document it all with maternity photography!

I recommend you bring daddy to be, your fur babies and other kiddos (if you have any).

Scheduling: When planning your maternity photography session, its best to try and schedule the shoot between week thirty-one (31) and thirty-six (36). If this is not convenient it’s wise to keep me constantly updated with your plans so that we can set the shoot up on short notice. You don’t want to lose the optimal window of opportunity! Maternity photos are not easily re-scheduled if missed due to the nature of birth.

Maternity Sessions include Hair/Makeup and use of our wardrobe closet.

Maternity Photography Sessions

Newborn Photography Sessions

Newborn

Welcoming a new addition to your family is one of life’s most exciting and also most meaningful events. The newborn stage of your baby’s life goes by incredibly quickly. These few weeks will seem like only a few days when you look back. Newborn photography sessions provide a unique opportunity to capture your little one within his/her first few days of life, so ensuring these enchanting memories are captured forever.

I carefully craft each session with your little one in mind,  from providing comfortable staging elements to low, soft lighting and swift shooting. During your newborn photography session, we will focus on the baby and all their tiny details, however, we will also take a few family photos capturing the love between you and your new arrival.

Complimentary use of 23Ps womens wardrobe closet.

Birth Photography

Why hire a birth photographer?

Having an experienced birth photographer ensures the *story* of your baby’s birth as told through photos. First of all, it gives you the details that you might miss from your hospital bed. It, also, allows your family and friends to support you and not worry about missing a moment. We ensure the little details are captured that a friend might not think to photograph. Furthermore, it allows your husband to hold your hand and be in the photos. The hours of labor and delivery pass just as quickly as the hours of your wedding day. Your birth photographer will make sure you have the details of the day captured to relive for years to come.

Why does birth photography cost so much?

Lexia Frank, a Portland birth and wedding photographer made a great analogy. Shooting a birth is like getting an inquiry for a wedding, but they aren’t going to set a date. They’ll just call you whenever. When you ask how many hours of coverage they would like, they say they aren’t sure, probably around 24, but maybe only 2. And you ask when they’d like for you to start coverage and they says they don’t know, but maybe around 2am. Oh, and, they are going to want the images right away to send out announcements.

Being on call isn’t just stressful for the birth photographer but for her family. We often rely on our partners to care for our children and interrupt their own careers with no notice at all.  Our family has to be understanding if we need to dash out of a family event or outing early or not attend at all due to an impending birth. Wherever we go, we drive separately, taking our equipment with us, and we can’t ever be unavailable. Our bags are packed at all times and we can’t indulge in the occasional glass of wine while we are on call. Holidays, birthdays, recitals and milestones very important to us are missed.

Not only is there the cost of professional equipment, transportation and babysitting for my own children, but I am virtually on call for 3 weeks prior and 1 week after your due date. No family vacations for us! Also, due to the unpredictable nature of birth, I am often called up at 3 AM and spend anywhere from 6 to 16 hours at my client’s birth! I charge what my time and dedication are worth. And trust me, the moments that I capture will be worth it.

Fresh 48

When to choose a fresh 48 rather than a birth?

There is nothing like a birth session to capture the bond between a couple, the strength and determination of a mother, the pride of a father, the quiet moments when time stood still, even the fear and apprehension and, my person favorite, the look on the parents’ face when they first lay eyes on their precious child! These are moments you cannot truly appreciate until you see them captured beautifully in photographs. Moments like this are only captured in a birth session.

However, as passionate as I am about birth photography, I do understand that it isn’t for everyone. Whether it’s finances, medical concerns or the very concept of a photographic depiction of your birth that puts you off, you won’t want to skip the Fresh 48! With the option to clean up a bit, rest, eat a good meal and get dressed after birth, the {Fresh} 48 will appeal to those who want a more controlled photography experience. While I won’t be on call 24/7 as I would with a Birth package, I do pre-book {Fresh} 48 sessions so that I am available within the first two days after birth, during daytime hours.

How is a fresh 48 different from a newborn session or hospital-offered packages?

A {Fresh} 48 session is very VERY different. Hospital photography is likely not going to include you, siblings or family members. It will likely be posed, lasting just a few minutes and won’t capture your baby’s true fresh self. Newborn photography also takes place shortly after birth but rarely within the first day or two. Your {Fresh48} session will happen right after birth when emotions are still high and everything is brand new. There are no props, studio lighting or baby posing, it is lifestyle. A {Fresh} 48 Session is not meant to take the place of a newborn session. They are two unique experiences offering wonderful keepsakes from two different times in your family’s life. While possibly only days apart, your baby will barely even look the same by the time your newborn session arrives. Don’t miss the opportunity to make time stand still with a {Fresh} 48 session!

Details

• The {Fresh} 48 Session takes place during daylight hours, within the first 48 hours of birth. The sooner the better!

• It can take place at the hospital, birth center or at home (wherever the child was born) and will last approximately 60 minutes.

• Lifestyle photography similar in style to my birth photography – unposed, natural or available light. A mix of black and white and soft color images.

• Includes same-day (or next day if your session is late in the day) Facebook sneak peek for you to share with friends and family.
